restore integrity to the Republican party in Utah

Help us keep the checks and balances that are provided by the grassroots-delegate vote in the state and county conventions.

REINSTATE THE DELEGATE VOICE

The Loophole

Up until 2014 and SB54, Delegates were able to effectively vet the very best Republican candidates in a nominating convention. They were authorized by the neighbors who elected them to study the issues, read over the literature, and have face to face discussions with the candidates.  The delegates attended the convention, gave up a Saturday and were able to effectively vet the very best Republican candidates and vote for the candidates who would best represent the party, uphold the platform, and represent Republicans regarding relevant issues.

As many of us know, Senate Bill 54 (2014) has created a different method for Republican candidates to advance to the primary election without participating in the Republican nominating conventions.

With the signature petition option provided by SB54, the candidate may gather signatures and advance automatically to the primary with out winning the convention election.

THE HISTORY OF SENATE BILL 54

The passing of Utah Senate Bill 54 (2014) was a direct response to the removal of Senator Bob Bennett, who was held accountable by the Republican Party for his voting record that favored Democratic values. As a result, the establishment worked with key Utah legislators to pass SB 54, removing the crucial grassroots checks and balances, the incumbent accountability, and the candidate vetting process that had been a part of the Utah State Republican Party's foundation.
